50%
of children in Haiti do not attend school
Thomassique, Haiti is a rural town about twenty (20) miles west of the Dominican Republic border. The average income in the area is less than $700 (USD) per year. Less than 40% of the homes in Thomassique (and only 15% of the homes in the outlying villages) have running water or sanitation (i.e., a latrine) on their property.
60%
of Haitian students do not make it to sixth grade
25%
of Haitian teachers have not attended secondary schools
Our first project is a collaborative relationship with St. Luc Elementary School in Thomassique, Haiti.
We aim to provide a safe, enriching education for the children in Thomassique. At St. Luc, we hire trained teachers and provide a daily, nourishing meal for the students and staff. Our students are able to attend school safely, allowing the parents time during the day to go to work knowing their child is safe and cared for.
Our Vision
There are very few public schools in Haiti. About 90% of schools in Haiti are privately run and most charge expensive tuition fees.
This is financially impossible for parents who are living in poverty. Two-thirds (2/3) of all Haitians live on less than $2.00 (USD) per day. Nearly 25% of the country’s population lives in extreme poverty — on less than $1.25 (USD) per day.
